We exist because nobody should be held hostage by debt and poverty. In a society where people live behind closed doors, thousands are desperately poor. Unable to feed their children, incapable of paying to heat their homes in winter, the grip of poverty is relentless. It breaks families apart and drives many to think that suicide is the only way out.
Here is a brief overview of the service we provide :
- A potential client is assigned a local debt coach who will arrange a face-to-face meeting at the clients home or preferred safe space.
- The debt coach helps to gather information about existing debt and sends this to CAP Head Office for evaluation.
- Options for a route out of debt are established and the coach explains the process to the client. Support is given to begin the journey out of debt.
- Contact (phone or visits) by the coach and a befriending volunteer continues and provides opportunity for the development of a supportive, encouraging relationship.
- Signposting and support to access Foodbanks or other charities is available.
- Our holistic approach to debt counselling looks at all aspects of a family’s situation.
- Once the debt coach has taken a client through the initial stages of the process, our team of caseworkers will work with the client on the journey to becoming debt free. The debt coach will continue to provide support and encouragement as required.
Clients can self-refer by calling CAP's free Helpline on 0800 328 0006, or access information through the web page https://capuk.org/get-help/cap-debt-help
The service is only currently available in SW Fife postcode areas KY11 and KY12
