The Client Representation Unit provides advice on appeals and represents clients at First Tier and Second Tier tribunals regarding benefit decisions made by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). These can include cases that have been unsuccessful at Mandatory Reconsideration or appeal (SSCS1), a change in benefits, or a sanction. Advisers support clients to appeal DWP, Local Authority and HMRC decisions, which can include the preparation of a written submission and accompanying clients to a Social Security and Child Support Hearing (tribunal). The hearings are managed by Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) and are independent of the DWP. The hearings are heard in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.
